Verdun Battlefields

Experience history in this guided tour of the Verdun battlefields. Fought between the French and German armies, the Battle of Verdun spanning 303 days in 1916 is of great significance in European History. During the First World War, the French and German armies fought one of the largest, longest, and costliest battles on the hills of Verdun-sur-Meuse. Our chauffeur-guide will not only show you the positions of the armies, but also narrate the strategy and tactics deployed during the battle. The German offensive deployed strategic moves to capture vantage positions including Fort Douaumont and Fort Vaux by deceiving the French to expect attacks at other locations, while keeping reinforcements away. Realizing the folly, the French army launched counter offensive moves and recovered the lost ground. From the comfort of your own private limousine, view the historic remains of the village of Fleury that changed hands sixteen times during the battle. The private tour includes a visit to the museum, and a walk at the battlefields, which have been preserved to show the fortifications and trenches. A dear memory in the hearts of the French, more than 700,000 soldiers sacrified their lives for the sovereignty of the French nation in the Battle of Verdun. One of the great characteristics of this historic event is the lack of bitterness towards the Germans, who are also considered as victims of the tragic event.
